Kindergarten Curriculum

Children build spoken language through songs, stories and conversation, learn letter names and sounds, recognise their first sight words, and begin writing their name and simple words.

Children count objects with one-to-one correspondence, compare quantities, recognise and write numerals, sort and extend patterns, and name shapes in their environment.

Children observe living things, weather and materials using their senses, describe what they notice, and begin to ask and answer simple questions about the world around them.

Children learn about themselves, their families, their school and the people who serve their community, and begin to recognise Liberian national symbols.

Children learn what a computer or tablet is, how to handle it carefully, and the golden rule that a grown-up is always present. They discover that machines only do what people tell them to do.

Through movement games and picture cards, children give and follow precise step-by-step instructions — the first idea of an algorithm — and correct instructions that do not work.

Children practise sharing, honesty, taking turns, helping others and caring for their classroom, building the social foundation for all later learning.

Children draw, paint, model, sing, drum and move, developing motor control, expression and confidence, with Liberian songs and rhythms woven throughout.

Children learn handwashing, personal hygiene, safe food and water, body safety, and take part in daily active play that develops coordination and teamwork.

Children meet history through their own lives and families: what happened yesterday, what happened when they were babies, and what their parents and grandparents remember. They order pictures in time and learn the flag, anthem and national holidays of Liberia.

Children learn that rules keep everyone safe and fair, that they belong to a class, a family and a country, and that people such as nurses, police officers and teachers serve the community.
