Grade bands served: Kindergarten through Grade 12

Mathematics at Stars Ablaze is taught for understanding, fluency and application in equal measure. Learners build number sense with concrete materials in the early years, master arithmetic operations and fractions in the elementary years, transition into algebraic reasoning in middle school, and follow a clear high-school pathway through Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and either Statistics or Pre-calculus. Every unit connects to a use — market pricing, measurement, construction, data, coding or engineering — so learners never experience mathematics as symbol manipulation without meaning.

Why this subject matters

Mathematics is the entry requirement for engineering, medicine, finance, computing and skilled trades. It is also the daily language of business, agriculture and household budgeting in Liberia.

Scope by grade band

Kindergarten – Grade 2

Counting and cardinality, number recognition to 100+, addition and subtraction within 20, shapes, patterns, measurement, time and money.

Grades 3–5

Multiplication and division fluency, fractions and decimals, area and perimeter, multi-step word problems, data tables and graphs, and introductory coordinate work.

Grades 6–8

Ratio and proportional reasoning, integers and rational numbers, expressions and equations, linear functions, geometry of solids, and statistics with variability.

Grades 9–12

Algebra I, Geometry with formal proof, Algebra II with quadratics, exponentials and logarithms, then Statistics or Pre-calculus with trigonometry for advanced pathways.

Spreadsheets from Grade 4, data visualisation from Grade 6, and from Grade 9 mathematics is applied inside coding and data-science work — learners are taught to verify AI-produced calculations rather than trust them.

Prerequisites

Algebra II requires Algebra I and Geometry; Pre-calculus requires Algebra II.
